I believe I was led to yoga at a time when I probably needed it more than I realised back then.
I remember doing my first ever tree pose in a class in East London over 20 years ago and how good it felt to be rooting my feet into the ground and spreading my arms like branches. A sublime feeling of calm and presence.
My background has been diverse. Having studied and worked in performance theatre for years, I realised it wasn't making me happy. Around this time I experienced a traumatic loss and this somehow lead me to Thailand where I studied the ancient healing art of Thai Massage.
Back in London I continued studying many styles of bodywork including acupressure and reflexology and ran my own studio for 10 years.
It was only a matter of time for me to embark on my yoga teacher training as it seemed to be beckoning me for a long while. I have now been teaching yoga for 8 years and it's a practice that helps to keep me grounded, flexible and more balanced.
I completed my 500 hours training in London. I have also completed my Yin training with Norman Blair. I spent time at the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in Kerala and have participated on in-depth trainings in London and India. I am inspired by the many branches of Yogic philosophy and numerous wonderful teachers around the world who light the way for teachers like myself and anyone on the path of yoga. Contemporary yoga teachers who inspire me greatly include Richard Rosen, Erich Schiffmann, Tias Little, Norman Blair, Sarah Powers, to mention but a few.
In terms of the style of yoga I teach, I would say that it is very much informed by my own practice over the years, including Hatha, Vinyasa, Iyengar and Yin. No matter what the style or level of class that I teach, I always place an emphasis on postural alignment, playfulness, self enquiry as well as self compassion throughout.
